Re: Flywheel nut keeps loosening on a 55hp Rude

80-85 ft-lbs is what my clymers manual states for that engine as well.

It doesn't give a model, it just states 2-cylinder 1978-1984.

I'm no expert on the props, but mine has a stamp on the outside that tells me the pitch. When I was at the parts store the other day, they told someone to look inside the hub for a number so they could cross it and get the exact match for them. My guess is there is probably some grime in there, so clean the hub and look around.

Take the prop nut off and look there. Should be on the hub....

You can use aviation permatex (the small can with brush) to seal the threads of the nut. OMC recommended OMC gasket sealer.

I took her out 2 different times and ran her like crazy. i put about 9 gallons of gas throught it and it did perfect, it ran like a top. well, untill the starter quit working. Ha Ha Ha. i had to get a rope and pull start it one time, but other than that it did great.. i think i need to clean the brushes on the starter. can i just clean the brushes, or will i have to buy new ones?

But thanks for the help guy's, you all saved me from buying a different motor.

Glad to hear the original problem is licked, sorry to hear a new one cropped up.

I'd think new brushes would be the way to go or even a new aftermarket starter. I'm kinda funny about stuff like that. If it were mine I'd get a new one from someone like Arco (I think they have them here at iboats). I'd rather know it'll go when I hit the key and we're far from home.

Yeah, but a replacement starter is way too much money, i know that i can start it with a rope if it does ever go bad, but the brushes will fix it for a couple of years. by then i will just throw a 70hp on there
