It is smaller than 1 1/2 but larger than 1 1/4.... Also, where can I get one of those strap wrenches as pictured in the manual?

Thanks,

Measure across the flats. You can get a flywheel turner (used to hold the flywheel) from NAPA. They may have to order it, but it's available. You will also need a harmonic balancer puller (and Gr 8 bolts and washers) from most any auto parts store, and a torque wrench for re-installing the flywheel.

1 5/16, you will need a 3/4 to 1/2 reducer for this size socket, try Sear's for the best price.

Thanks for the replies.... I picked up an 1 5/16 3/4 drive socket and 3/4 socket slider bar at NAPA...used the rope around the flywheel tied to a cleat on the boat....nut came right off... I have a puller that will work...just have to get the right sized bolts to go down into the flywheel holes....

I got the flywheel off. I used a puller that I had from years ago. I used 5/16 bolts through the puller. Had to use my torque wrench (longer than my regular 1/2 socket wrench) to get a little more umph. I also used a little WD-40.

When replacing the flywheel, make sure ALL traces of WD40 are gone from the flywheel bore and the crankshaft taper. They must be absolutely clean and dry.

Check the flywheel magnets.....make sure none are loose or cracked.

thanks guys, I will definately make sure everything is clean and dry. I am going with a replacement powerhead. Can anyone recommend a a vendor? I am leaning towards using one of the two through iboats.

may want to lap flywheel in with vavle lapping compound lightly .
mar fab may be helpfull for you rebuilt powerhead .
i was considering buying one but decided to build mine myself
due to the fact that you really dont know what your getting from a rebuilder.
i cahnge out a lot of automotive motors and have used several rebuilders that are reputable but have had to many comebacks so whent back to doing the rebuilds myself .you dont want to buy a sloppy rebuild from a builder
and have to pay shipping , then if ya have probs you have to ship back pm faztbullet he may build and ship ya one .
