I have a 89 90hp johnson, and i need to know what bolt size are the holes on the fly wheel. The bolts that i was using seemed to be the wrong size and pulled right out, luckly the treads on the flywheel arn't bad of shape

Re: flywheel puller bolt size??

I believe they are 5/16 NF Dave. Funny, I got a harmonic puller and never measured the threads for the puller bolts.

Re: flywheel puller bolt size??

Right after the threaded part, there is a flat shoulder that fits flat against the flywheel once the threaded part is all the way in. This makes the pulling bolts equal so the pull on the flywheel is equal around.

Re: flywheel puller bolt size??

A stripper bolt such as you want for your engine is a 5/16- 24 thread. The body of the bolt is smooth, and is 3/8, or .375 in dia. The business end of the bolt is turned to 5/16, and threaded for 1/2 inch up to the shoulder of the smooth part. The bolt is screwed in up to the shoulder, and tightened securely. This takes the strain off the threads in the flywheel. The smooth body of the bolt is 1 3/4 in. long. This is the bolt supplied with the OMC puller.

I know exactly what you're talking about. I just hadn't heard that name for them before.
