flywheel question

Ok, I have recently changed out my 454 in my sunsport skier with a 35o that I have built. I installed the 454 flywheel not realizing that the 454 was externally balanced. Well I purchased a 350 flywheeel from the local parts store and from glancing at them it looks like the ring gear on the new flywheel is closer to the block thus throwing off my starter. Went ahead and started the install last night and im not sure if I should tear it back down and have a closer look or just finish and try it. Anyone else had a situation like this?

Re: flywheel question

i believe 2-piece and 1-piece rear main flywheels are specific, that may be your problem

Re: flywheel question

Both the 454 and the 350 that I used were 2 piece rear main seals. And there is not a problem with it fitting on the crank. The issue is that the ring gears on each of the flywheels look like they wont meet the starter bendix in the same location.

Ayuh,...
Chevy uses either a 12" flywheel or a 14" flywheel, depending on the Starter,+ it's bolt pattern....
