hey guys,

new to the forum...have always done a TON of reading on iboats and this is the first time I could not find an answer for the question I have....

here goes,
built a new engine last spring for my boat which is a 1978 SBC 350. runs great, did some modifications and upgrades and I believe its running right around 310-320hp. as far as I know this is a 2 piece rear main engine, the crank HAS the counter balance weight on it and the flywheel bolts to the crank. like an idiot I used the small 153 tooth 12in flywheel off of my old merc 260 engine and put it on the new engine, drilled a hole in my block for the straight across bolt starter (block only had diag pattern) for 14in flywheel. tried starting the boat with my original straight bolt starter and it didn't work (great). drilled the hole a bit off. so....I found a starter from summit racing made by CSR performance products. this starter has a adaptor plate that bolts to the block using the back bolt (diag hole) and gives you straight bolt holes for the starter. I have gone through 2 of these starters now at $300 each and after about 40 starts it will start to grind. so today I said to hell with it, im putting a 14in flywheel in and using a standard marine staggered starter because im tired of dealing with it.

here is my question...does anybody know what part number I need from sierra marine or any other brands that summit racing might carry? I have 250 of warranty credit through them and that's what im going to use for a flywheel.

I need a 14in 168 tooth flywheel for a 2 piece (2.5in crank hole in flywheel) for a crank that has the counter weight on it. that way I can use my marine diag starter. any help would be appreciated!

thank you!

Ayuh,..... Welcome Aboard,..... Ya need the flywheel you state, used on standard shift trucks, neutral balance, from the '60s, through 1986, when the 1 pc. rear main seal came out,....

used on standard shift trucks,

Ayuh,..... I already covered that,....

If ya want it to be a Mercruiser flywheel,.......
Paint it black, I prefer Rustoleum industrial enamel myself,.....

Napa probably has 'em even cheaper than summit,.... possibly any GM dealer too,....

in changing that, do I need to change the engine coupler? I currently have the doughnut style coupler...
