flywheel removal

If there are no bolt holes present on the top of my flywheel to thread my flywheel puller into, what is the procedure for removing the flywheel. The motor is a sea king 1985 15 horse model # VWB 52122

They say acetone and tranny fluid.

I just hammered mine off from underneath with deadblow while rotating wheel. Took about 20 good smacks.

Do you have a similar motor? Wondering if you know if my 85 sea king is a points motor or electronic ignition?

It is a Chryslere/Force change over was circa 1984. Should be regular magneto ignition. Are there no holes under the plywheel plate?If the flywheel has blind holes in it carefully drill out and then fine thread.
If no holes loosen the nut leave to protect threads hold the motor up by the flywheel and use a lead or brass hammer and whack it good and hard on the top of the crank.When assembling the bore and taper should by clean and dry.Torque to 45-50 ft lbs.primary coil resistance is .7-.9 ohms.,secondary is 13,500-16500.ohms

Thanks Steelspike, If blind holes are partially drilled holes that are under the emergency rope pull , then my motor does have them. I have no idea how to check coil ohms or whatever you said. Do you know if the point gap setting would be .020 like most of my other motors? Also, would my plug gap be .030? Do I do the coil check with a regular meter like I use in household electrical work? Thanks for all your help.

I hate it when people hammer on the flywheel nut and bugger up the crankshaft threads!! The proper way to remove the flywheel is with a flywheel knocker. You can buy them at small engine shops or make you own for less than a buck.

You need two nuts and one bolt, same thread size as your shaft. Use the shortest bolt you can find. Screw one nut up on the bolt, then the second one only a couple of turns on. Then run the first nut back down against the second one and jam them together. Behold!! You have just made a special tool.

Remove the flywheel nut, then screw the knocker on the shaft hand tight. Pry lightly upward on the flyweeel and give the knocker a sharp rap or two with a hammer. Retighten the knocker on the shaft between hits if necessary. DON'T BASH IT. And put the sledge away. A 12 or 16 oz hammer is enough, 12 oz preferred. All it takes is a couple of sharp raps. The flywheel will pop off and you haven't wrecked the threads on the shaft.

You really need to tap those holes in order to use a proper flywheel or steering wheel puller. To do it right you'll need a regular tap in the proper size along with a 'bottom-hole' tap to form threads all the way to the bottom of the holes. I make my bottom-hole taps from extra or broken standard taps by grinding them as needed.

AFAIK all Chryslers use .020 on the points and .030 for the plugs.

Take the motor to a shop with impact wrench. You would not believe how easy it would be with a impact wrench.

Used the bolt and 2 nut trick F.R. suggested and it worked great.
