Flywheel stop position?

I have a 1996 Ford 351/volvo penta. I am in the process of replacing the starter. There is one missing tooth on the ring gear. I've read that the fly wheel will stop in 1 of the same 3-4 positions every time. If this is true, is there a way to install the starter so the missing tooth does not stop in the starter position? (Are the flyweel stop positions all 90 degrees apart?)

No, the starter goes where the starter goes.
If replacing the ring gear is not an option, you can carry a breaker bar with the right socket and bar the engine past the bad spot when it hits there.

What if I turn the flywheel past the missing tooth before installing the starter? Will this prevent the flywheel from stopping at the missing tooth?
