How does one man torque the flywheel bolt down to 105 ft/lbs by himself???? Is there a way to lock the drive without using a piece of wood between the prop and the LU?? Any suggestions appriciated. BTW its a 18 hp 63 Fastwin....

Re: flywheel torque help

I use a automotive flywheel holding tool, it engages the teeth on the flywheel so you can hold it.

You might want to double check that 105 ft. lb. torque spec on your "small" 18hp flywheel nut. Sounds a mite steep.

Use a strap wrench on a smooth flywheel or a flywheel holder on a toothed flywheel.

Re: flywheel torque help

The torque spec is 40/45 ft-lbs for the flywheel.

Re: flywheel torque help

Thanks, assuming under torquing to the correct specs will ultimately shear the pin, will overtorquing have the same result?

Re: flywheel torque help

Wrong torque will usually cause the flywheel key to shear. Do this a few times and the flywheel and crankshaft become junk.

Re: flywheel torque help

Thanks guys, I went ahead and set to right torque - 45lbs is much easier by yourself..
