Have flywheel held and removed nut but can't get flywheel to come off, am about 5 mins from pulling out the grinder or sledge hammer...:D

I don't have access to pnuematic tools so can't use air rachet...

please help this is going on for 2 days now, i just can get it to pop off..

Nut was well tighten on and I'm thinking maybe the flywheel is seriously held on to the crankshaft top

Re: Flywheel won't budge Help!!

why are you removing the flywheel? are the bolte holding the flywheel to the crankshaft hub?a stator and trigger can usually be removed without removing the hub on some engines.be sure to mark the flywheel if you unbolt it from the hub if your doing work on the retainer or upper main bearing you gonna have to pull the hub. Get a puller and a hammer to shock it loose when the puller has tension and repeat as nessecary until it gives. I would tap the puller sideways creating lift and no damaging the Crank shaft or bearings

Re: Flywheel won't budge Help!!

it's the exciter and ignition coil i have to replace, not a stator or trigger. Have it held and tried to tap it. The only holes on the flywheel for a harmonic puller are the 3 bolt holes that attach the pull start aluminium pulley to the top of the flywheel and these are about an inch from the centre of the flywheel...

Re: Flywheel won't budge Help!!

You need a Merc flywheel puller that threads in the center.

If only that simple sunfish. The middle of the flywheel isn't threaded so a merc one doesn't suit.
