DSC0107.jpgDSC0104.jpgDSC0104.jpgGentleman,

I have been reading through your forum and glad to be a member, last year I got a 1968 Falcon, was redone somewhat..Do you recommend I add some flotation under the floor and if so what type?. I used marine varnish on the top of the floor as it is riveted down and I didnt want to go through the hassle of removing it to varnish the bottom of the plywood. I dont know from what I can see if there is any flotation under the floor.I have run her last summer with no troubles. Just thinking if I need the flotation under it or not. I have redone several rivets under the hull that leaked a little, so far no leaks..I have a 1072 50 evinrude lark electric shift on her, runs perfect. I know its only rated for a 40 but thats what she came with. I use her here on the different finger lakes in New York as I am within a half hours drive of several lakes. Thanks for the advice..I attached a few pics of her here..Thank you Jim..

Re: foam flotation question 1968 falcon

Better try again w the pix....

You only need flotation foam if you don't want the boat to sink.... So YES you want flotation foam, as much as possible... A 1968 probably had styrofoam (like a cooler or a cup) flotation foam. If it doesn't, someone likely removed it, it breaks down and isn't the best option available for foam. 2part pourable foam from US Composites (or others) or closed cell pink/blue sheet insulation from HD/Lowes are your best bet.........

Look thru the resto's posted in the SC forum, you'll see quite a few done w/ each..........

Foam would be good from a safety and salvage point of view if anything bad ever happened.

Pulling the floor up to put some foam in would not be that hard. It would also allow you to seal the bottom of the plywood. Sealing only the top might just allow it to rot out faster. Seals the moisture from below in.
