Hi all,
I'm in the process of replacing stringers and my floor board. Currently there are some floation foam on the canals between the stringers, but not much. Would it be ideal for me to fill as much floation foam in canals? Also can I use standard foam used in packing TV, VCR, etc.
Thanks.

Re: foam

I would sugeest you do. I can not hurt to have as much positive flotation as possible. I would suggest using the 2 part foam that is used specifically for this application. It should be Coast Guard approved. This foam is close celled and will not absorb water. I cost a little bit but is worth it. You can also search this section for more info/opiions about this.

Re: foam

Actually the right way would be to estimate the weight of the boat underwater and add enough foam to float it plus an extra couple hunderd pounds. The foam will support about 58 lbs per cubic foot. I just ordered some 2lb density foam from U.S. Composites. Best price I could find, if you find better let us know.

Re: foam

I remember when I did mine late into the night. Just as I was falling alsleep I could hear ting TING Ting! (I recalled the master telling me to watch the expansion of the foam some are different all I could think of was my rivets popping out) I jumped up looked out my window and saw nothing happening but could still here the popping. The sound seem to come from the bathroom. Yep it was the tom! Picking 25 lb cat was drinking left over shower water in the tub! He near died. Still I like to fill up the ol tub and give him a real drink.
