Re: fogging oil

SeaFoam is not a fogging oil. It is a fuel system treatment to stabilize fuel for long term storage. It is also used as an additive to clean fuel systems when added to the tank every fill up. It is also an excellent agent for removing carbon deposits. When you prepare the engine for storage, add SeaFoam to the fuel and run the engine until you are sure the mixture has entered the engine. It wouldn't hurt to leave it run a few minutes longer. You then spray "fogging oil" into the air intake to coat the inside of the engine with the protective oil. Fogging oil is available at most big box stores that sell marine supplies. You can then remove the plugs, spray some additional oil in the cylinders, turn the engine by hand to distribute the oil. Insert the plugs, change the lower unit lub and put it to bed.

Re: fogging oil

I have always used fogging oil. I like to use products that are intended for a specific purpose when it comes to outboards...

While I like Seafoam as a decarb agent, they pretty much claim it will cure everything from that to the plague....

This is why I'm skeptical about Seafoam in general. They say it does so many things, if I can't believe some why should I believe any? What is in it that stabilizes fuel? Why would a decarbon agent also stabilize fuel and serve as fogging oil?

They make so many claims that sound to me to be far-fetched at best, makes me kind of doubt it does anything it claims. I have used it to de-carb my engines and it does indeed smoke like hell, but so does extra 2 stroke oil and fogging oil. Yes, it drools black crap, but my old 2 strokes tend to drool black oily crap anyway. I have absolutely NO objective evidence it actually de-carb'd my engines (nor do I have evidence any of them needed it!). I have never seen objective, measured evidence it actually works. (other than tales from the dock)

I use products made specifically for the intended use - i.e. Stabil (or similar) for fuel stabilization, real fogging oil for fogging. Seafoam just claims to do so many things, I can't believe it does any of them as well as the dedicated products.

Re: fogging oil

In the past I used "fogging oil" to fog my outboards. The past couple years I have been using plain old 2-stroke oil for fogging.
