Follow up to adj, adj, adj and still rattlin

Thanks to the experts here on iboats I got my boat back in the water after rebuilding reglassing stringers, and deck. But had a rattle in the motor after adjusting the valves, sounded like valves anyway, finally pulled and went inside motor.( 3.0 gm on 19 cuddy)

What really made me sick was tearin apart all new gaskets and bearings, someone, previous to me had recently redone this motor.

Here s my question: inside the block wouldn t hone out on 2 3 4, there is a spot in cyl wall from the blck sittin to long somewhere down the line. the piston in pics is 1 and it cleaned up fine. Is 30 over ok on block and new pistons?
Machine shop has not started yet,500 to 600.00 this includes hypertech pistons and new cam bearrings.
any opinions?

Looks like problems due to detonation to me, be sure to set the timing and advance timing capabilities of the distributor.

If the chips in pistons line up with the pitts/ scale in cylinders, which is the way it looks to me, you have cranked / started engine with rusted cylinders. you need to mic the cyls and match up pistons.

Thanks, Reel Poor, you may have a point it was on the detonation side of the piston, hadn t considered timing, would that cause just the #1 cyl to do that or would it effect the #3 also. cause 3,2,4 were all clean just marks in the cyl wall of 2 3 4

or seized pistons

Is .30 over gonna be to much for that engine to be bored out?

Nope,..........030 is a Good 1st Rebore........
That'll leave you about the same for a 2nd Rebore someday......

Those motors will take a .060 total......

Detonation is a bad thing and can effect one or more cylinders.
