Ok on my last Post (What Do You Think). I am debating on buying this motor, My questions is..... I have a 1959 Lyman 17' which is rated up to 70hp. Since I have a brand new Transom can I put A 1975 115hp Johnson on it.. Just asking before I start the overhaul of my engine which will cost more than to buy this one.

Thanks

Lyman,
The definitive answer is NO. It does'nt matter if the transom is new, you will be severely overloading the rating of the hull. Don't do it.

Re: Follow up ?

You said that the boat is rated for a 70? I believe that back then the 70 horse was a 3 Cylinder? and a 125 is a V-4 which way considerably more, which brings in the weight issue, I am totally against overpowering anything, but I still think that would be considered grossly overpowered and you may be fined, denied insurance and if something bad happens, even sued for negligance. Just my opinion though.
