I posted this topic in the boating section then thought it was more appropriate here so if you read it there sorry. I have recently aquired a boat with a foot throttle and no instructions. what I need to know is where do you position the hand throttle to engage the gear case? All the way foward like at WOT or just somewhere past neutral? The reason I ask is I have had some bucking at high speed that feels like prop slipage from hitting floating debries. I am wondering if it is due to improper engagment of the gear case letting the clutch slip.

Re: Foot throttle question.

I don't think it would make any difference past neutral. You should be completely in gear even at 5mph without the foot throttle, and at that point the lever wouldn't be very far forward.
