Re: Foot Throttle

Use the foot throttle on anything that runs fast enough that you need to keep both hands on the wheel when driving at speed. You can use a foot throttle with any control. I have rigged ski boats with the standard single lever, dual function control and a foot throttle. It's very simple to switch cables back and forth at the engine as needed.

The biggest fear of foot throttles is that you will rev up the motor before dropping it in gear.

Most everybody I know uses the "Hot Foot" sold by Bobs Machine. 800-966-3493.

There is another brand thats sold to be run in conjunction with the hand control. I installed one and had nothing but problems. I talked to several others that had the same experience. Stick with the Hot Foot. If you call Bob's, tell them I said hello.

What kind of rig do you have?

Good luck!

Re: Foot Throttle

Hey,
Thanks for the reply. My boat is a '79, 17' Seajay Speedliner w/a 200hp 'rude.

If I understand, with the "Hot Foot" you switch back and forth by changing cables at the engine? Doesn't sound to tuff. Does the "Hot Foot" come with cable, ends, etc.?
I'll give Bob's a call and tell'um you said "Howdy".

Did you ever know a Bob Hadley that worked for Glastron a hundred or so years ago? Just curious.

Thanks again & c/6

hooty

Re: Foot Throttle

Hey Hooty, Land & Sea makes the one that works in conjunction with the hand throttle. I have used it for a few years, and am happy with it.

The trick, is to buy the fancy Morse low friction cables, and in my case, I had to add a return spring to the throttle linkeage arm.

There is more friction at the binnacle control than normal, due to the extra spring, but all in all I really enjoy having the option to do both. Hope this helps
