I was just looking at a post in which you said to gap plugs at .040 for a 40hp merc. Ihave a 65hp 1967 merc my question is would it help to gap plugs at .040 instead of .030 as recopmmended? I will defer to you expertise. Thanks in advance.

Rickrick1

The previous reply was for a much newer Motor. '98 I believe! Yours can run either L76V Surface Gap Plugs or these:

Spark Plug Part No. Stock No. Plug Gap
Standard B7HS # 5110 # .030

I had a 1967 650 65 HP and ran the L76V with no trouble, although I did'nt do much low speed running.

Thanks for the reply, I was just wondering if increasing the gap would give better spark.

Try .035 and see how it goes. It will give you a little better spark.
