The boat is a 1997 Maxum 1900sr with a 4.3 Mercruiser. It was parked in a garage for four years so I had to do a few things to get it running. I rebuilt the carb, new impeller, water pump, battery, plugs, plug wires, distributer cap, rotor, fuel filter, oil and oil filter. I also set the timing and the idle.

What I would like to know is if the rpm's and top speed are where they should be. I took it out today with three adults and one child with a total weight of about 600 to 650 #'s including gear. The boat was also topped off with 28 gal of fuel. At wot and trimmed out I got 53 mph at 4800 rpm's. Do these numbers sound right for this boat and motor?

I would like to thank everyone here for the help. I found all the information needed to get the boat going by searching this forum. When you take the time to answer a question you are not just helping one person. You are also helping people like me who would rather find the answer using the search rather than waiting for someone to reply in a post.

Thanks!

Perfect #'s. Use it in good health. Take care of it and it will take care of you.

Good luck and welcome aboard!

Thanks. I thought the numbers were pretty good. I expected to hit 50 with just me on board but not with two more adults and a full cooler. Next time out I will check it with a gps.

No problem. I don't plan on running wide open all the time, gas is too expensive. I ran 30mph from the ramp to the inlet and it took about thirty minutes. On the way back I just thought I would open it up for a short stretch and check the numbers. I noticed that the boat seemed real loose when it was trimmed out and running full speed. I think the hydrofoil needs to go and some smart tabs put on.

You guys will get a laugh out of this. My father in law gave up on the boat when it broke down four years ago. We had spent the day at the inlet and when we went to leave the fuel pump quit (he doesn't know about fuel stabilizer or regular maintenance is). After a call to sea tow and $700 later, he had enough of boating. Recently I got the ok from the mother in law to fix it and she would pay for the parts. I can use it like its mine and just have to take her out now and then. My father in law didn't want to go out in the boat on Sunday when I told him we were going to the inlet. He said I was crazy to take it that far on only the second outing since I fixed it and that he would just stay home. Now the boats fixed and I'm all big headed because I did it myself and I tell him lightning doesn't strike in the same place twice. So off we go to the inlet. Everything is good until we get ready to head back to the ramp. I pull the anchor, spin the boat around and give it a good push away from the beach. Now this is the exact same spot and scenario as when the boat broke down before. I hop on and jump in the seat, turn the key and it's not starting. Now we are drifting back towards some other boats that were anchored nearby. You have got to be kidding me, not again. I glance back towards the beach and the other boats to see how close we are getting and I see my daughter sitting in my wifes lap playing with the lanyard from the kill switch. I flipped the switch and she fires right up. I can laugh about it now but for a minute or two I was doubting my do-it-yourself skills and I could just here my father in law saying I told you so.
