I am having problems with erratic spark on my 1992 120 hp L Drive and it will only run to 2000 rpms and thats all. I have good compression, good fuel supply, and good bright spark, but it fires erraticly on 1,2,&4. I have had lots of suggestions on here, based on info that I have given. Now with that said...I just realized that one of the magnets under the flywheel is cracked all the way through. It is still attached like it is supposed to be, but just cracked. I was wondering if the Stator would be reading that signal as 2 different magnets and causing lots of ignition problems!?! Thanks in advance!

Re: Force 120 Flywheel

That's a possibility. But have you checked the fuel line for restrictions.
I had a problem with ethanol. It delaminated the inside of the hose and it was comming apart. It would collapse and only allow fuel to come thru untill a certain speed then shut off the fuel.
Next look at the reeds.
Get in line sparkies and take it for a ride.Install them and run it and see if the spark breaksdown..J

Re: Force 120 Flywheel

Well...I have replaced all fuel lines, blown through the vent line and supply line (to clear any debris). My spark is good on #3 and 4 but erratic on #1 and 2 which leads me to believe that the stator is "picking up signal" from 3 magnets instead of 2. It seems like the stator is not running at the high speed side because it is confused and starts running rough.

Re: Force 120 Flywheel

Oh...my next problem is that the guy at the Salvage yard is telling me he needs the number off the top of the flywheel to match it up to a good used one. The thing is, I don't have any numbers on top of mmy flywheel. I even called Mercury and they looked up a new one, which I understand will be a little different than the original Force flywheel because the number changed 4 times, and there weren't any numbers cast in the top of it. So, I am just gonna buy a new flywheel I guess. It's only $210.
