Force 120 hp Outboard Problem

I could use some serious help. I was out fishing yesterday and was idling out of a cove. When i gave it some throttle and the boat was trying to get on plane. all of the sudden the boat lost its momentum and the RPM's shot real high. I pulled the motor out of the water and the prop was still spinning. So i lowered it back in the water and tried it again. I put it in gear and started to give it some throttle and again the RPM's shot real high and i was not moving. Its a 1998 Force 120 Hp outboard. It seems like when you put torque to the prop nothing is happening but at idle the prop turns with no problem. Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like you have a spun hub on the prop. Put a mark on the center hub portion of the prop lined up with another mark on the outer metal portion of the prop. Hit the throttle hard enough to to duplicate the problem, stop the motor and see if the two marks are still lined up. My guess is that they probably won't be lined up any more. If they aren't lined up, you need to get the prop re-hubbed or replace the prop.

Either spun hub or loose or disconected shift cable?

mikebreslin, you need to start a new thread for your subject as we're dealing with something different with #1gatorfan and his problem.
