Re: Force 120 slow cranking starter

Just to throw my 50 cents in as an electrician. I was putting a battery switch in my trophy recently and cut one of the heavy starter cables and found the black copper. So I replaced the cables with a awg #2 and now the engines crank over better than ever.

Re: Force 120 slow cranking starter

Ok guys, it looks like I got this fixed. I installed a replacement starter and the boat now starts normally. The motor spins over quickly with no stalling.

I took the old starter apart and didn't see anything obvious. The brushes were still quite thick. the rotor winding didn't look burnt. The magnets appeared to be in place. There was some debris that fell out when I took it apart. Perhaps it was shorting out the winding. If I get bored I'll reinstall it and see if it is working again.

Anyway, thanks again for all the guidance. I'm hoping to get the boat out this weekend.
Regards,
Mike M.

Congrats! It should last you awhile. As for the old starter, you might want to clean and restore it and keep it as a spare.
