Force 120 - water pump

Having trouble with the water coming out of the Pee Hole when the ears are connected. In the<br />Lake the water pump works just fine. However periodically the water does not come out of the <br />Pee holes when the ears are connected during maintenance. The pump is brand new and works<br /> fine in the water. The motor is straight up and there is plenty of water pressure in the hose. Any <br />suggestions on the way I'm connecting the ears. Or is this sometimes a common problem?<br /><br />Thanks!

deppong,<br />a force is a different creature entirely, and its normal for very little water to come through the telltale...especially on muffs. when running on muffs, just check your block periodically...you should be able to rest your hand on it for a few seconds...if the motors staying cool, that's all the water it needs.

I have an 88 Force 125 HP. I have found the same type things that your running into, but I also found that if I use the Ears with the Round cups on them, with the hose connection at the back of the muffs, rather than on one side or the other, this works the best. I then attach it as tight as I can using some bungy cords to pull the cups tightly around the fins on this, and it seems to work really well. <br /><br />I have alot of water that comes out of the wholes located on the lower unit and out the exhaust, just above the prop. I probably get a pretty good broken stream coming out the pee hole that shoots about 2-4 feet.<br /><br />This works great for me.<br /><br />Hope it helps.<br /><br />Thanks,<br />Bryan Cox

I have a 1998 Force, and it acts pretty much the same way. If I am running using the muffs, and the engine has been idling for a while (warm), I can rev it 1500+ and get a steady stream, but at idle, even sometimes on the lake, the flow stops. I thought this was a problem when I first bought the boat also, I've been told that this is completely normal for Force engines, as others have said, they operate somewhat different than other makes. As long as you get a steady stream at 1500+, or you get warm water out of you through-prop exhaust, your pump is working just fine.<br /><br />-Nick

The best way to know if your engine is getting enough water is to install a waterpressure guage. For about 30 bucks you can get one and it will give you a piece of mind. It also lets you know if your water pump is starting to go bad. A lot better than waiting for it to fail completely out on the lake.

Thanks for the feedback on the Force Pee hole problem. Where is the Pee Hole connected to? Since most of the water comes out of the exhaust - why do most engines have a Pee hole. A lot of times I use the Pee hole as a health check for the flow of water in the engine. Looks like a temp or pressure gauge is the best way to go. Am I wasting my time with the Pee hole.

Have a 98 Force 120. You may have already done this, but take the cowling off and look where the hose comes off the top of the head. These motors have a tendency to leak there. You don't notice it when your running because there's plenty of pressure to push the water
