Hello to you all from cold finland. Posted a topic a few months a go with the subject "oily water" Many thanks to Force01 & the marine doctor for answers. So, now my problems are following:

Changed sparkplugs at the end of the season and drove with them for about 3 hours. I checked the spark plugs on the engine and two plugs were as they have never been used and two of the plugs were a bit black, kind of dirty. What might be the reason for this?

I also have a trim problem, seems to leak from the chamber of "drive trim", the bigger cylinder. the tilt and trim work allright. The o-ring at the bottom of the chamber has been changed, but it didnt do the trick. Is there any possibility to seal the cylinder from outside with some sealant? Chamber is a bit worn out, new one costs about 350E in finland = about 370 us dollars. I need a good adwise from you guys, thats a lot of money for an old engine..

One more thing, last time i wrote here force01 answered me that my engine might have a cloggeg or defective puddling system. I dont understand what is puddling system. :( Could you please explain me more, whre is this system located?

Thank you for your answers, Jaba

Re: force 120hp 1992

I would be more concerned with the 2 plugs that still appear new. It could be the carb(s) for those 2 cylinders are running lean, or that water is getting into those 2 cylinders and steam cleaning the plugs. Slightly dirty plugs are normal in a 2 stroke engine.

I would have a compression check performed to see if you may have a head gasket leak or bad rings.

If that checks out ok, I would have the carbs cleaned/rebuilt, and then have the carbs synced.

A lean condition or water intrusion will cause your engine to fail.

THe puddling system, refers to the fuel recirculation system. It is normal for excess fuel to "puddle" in the bottom of the crankcase, near the lower crankshaft bearing. The recirculation system collects this fuel, and recycles it back to the intake manifold, so it can be re-used.

Re: force 120hp 1992

Thanks for your answers. Will do the test when it gets warm enough.. In a couple of months.. Ive been told that compression should be 125psi. Can someone convert that to bars? Would help me a lot.
What are things that I shuold keep in mind when changing (if needed) the head gasket? What is the torque for head bolts?

Is it possible to order parts online and get them shipped to Finland? If so, what is the address? Im pretty sure that parts are cheaper bought online than in the local workshop. And the availibility could be better too.

Can someone help me with the trim/tilt problem?
This is a really awesome forum..

-jaba-

125 psi = 8.61 bars
what is the temp now in finland ? the seals are only designed to work in a certain temp range standard seals become brittle and stiff in sub zero tempratures and will leak you want to wait until it warms up and then try your tilt

Thanks moff!

The temp in here is about -10c. The boat is under the cover and stays that way for at least 2,5-3 months. So i´m not gonna do anything for a long period of time. Thanks for the tip anyway. Just asking these things in advance so I can start to find spareparts. It´s kind of difficult to get get parts for Force engines in Finland.

Forgot to mention, the trim leaked when it was almost +30c last summer, so I think the temperature is not the reason for this.

Check your fuel pump. If the two plugs that look "New" are on #1 and #2 cylinders, replace the fuel pump and install a large fuel water seperator filter as well. With fuel starvation the top cylinders run lean and HOT causing burnt pistons (don't ask how I know!). Check and change filters on a regular basis and things will stay well.
