Re: force 120hp overheating

Ok guys. It was not the solenoid. One of my kids climbed in the boat and threw the power switch on at some point. I'm thinking that it must've been on for at least 3 days. Anyway, a guy gave me a used solenoid for free and after putting it on and still nothing I opened up my battery compartent again. Everything still looked good til I peeled back the red rubber that covers the terminals. The inside was melted just enough to interefere with my connection. So the cliking was simply because I didn't have a full power connection. I noticed the power switch on the night before I plugged my charger in. Shut it off and plugged the boat in, never thought twice about it. All that headahce for nothing. So after all that I'm even wondering if the starter I sent back was still good too. Guess it doesn't mattter, at least I got it replaced before the warranty expired.

As for the compression.....another story. After changing the head gasket the top 3 evend out a bunch. 150, 150, and 160. The lower one is 100. There was a pretty nastey scar on the cylinder, it moves freely and no obstructions, but its about 1/8" deep X 1/2" wide & 1/2" long. My dad thinks there is a bad or loose pin. But he said they would have to bore out the whole engine and install new everthing. He said just drive it as is and don't go WOT on it.

I agree with your dad. Run it but don't abuse it as long as you can. If it ever quits, then go buy a new boat/motor combo.

So would it be ridiculous of me to put a SS prop on it, or is it possible that it would help the motor out a bit? Either way I need a new prop if I am going to continue to use this motor.

Stainless costs more than aluminum and, if you don't run up to WOT, you probably won't see too much difference between it and aluminum. If you run in lakes or rivers, stainless props take more punishment than aluminum.

Your call, after all, it's your money. ;)
