2012-05-17 12.01.27.jpgok so I went over this whole motor again because of this ongoing issue not idling and only getting up to hull speed at wide open throttle. Im no boat Tech by any means... but I am a good wrench. Does this pack look burnt up

Re: force 125 Burnt up Cdi module?

i just burned up my cd module a few weeks ago. hese the pics. i had 0 spark though. not a lick. that pack may be bad but ide wait to hear from someone a little more experienced. the new pack fixed mine right up. if it was bad though im not sure you would have spark. mine smelled like burnt elect tape. i shorted a ground wire hooking up a light that burned up mine.

heres what the blue one works on.

Re: force 125 Burnt up Cdi module?

did a little digging on the web heres some info from here from past threads.

http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=244770

http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=149049

from what i have gathered that you can in fact use the blue but you will need to swap the coils to blue ones too. you are better off looking for a black if it is in fact bad unless you want to get coils too. theres some black cd's on ebay right now that match your wire color codes. i was there a bit ago looking.

you can find them by using force cd box, force power pack, and force ignition box. i got mine there for $82 and it was tested. better than $440.00

but i would wait for info from some mechanics as i really cant tell you from the post if it would be the box or not. but i should have cleared up the differences in the two for ya. also you might get someone here with parts???????

Re: force 125 Burnt up Cdi module?

I found a used blue pack on ebay for 50 bucks its coming from fla.
I think the spark is intermitant on the bottom 2 cylilders when i pull the plugs out the top 2 have carbin on the and the bottom 2 are just wet with fuel.
The packs are the same the wire colors are the same.
Ill have to swap the pin clips that go to the coils because there reversed I have 2 new orange and black cdi coils i can hook up to the blue pack .I ohmed the stator values for the stator were 650 -800 Im thinking thats good so spec says. Is there a way to bench test these cd packs?;)

Re: force 125 Burnt up Cdi module?

blue pack.jpg the wires are the same colors as the black cd just the pin connectors are swaped.... I hope I can do it. The replacement Force CDI 182-4475R Coil replaces both blue and black coils. So maybe just maybe the blue pack will work with the new 2 new CDI replacement coils that I have since the coils replace blue and black....I really need an expert to chime in on this.I really dont want to just speculate seeing the pack burned but the blue pack on ebay was only 50 and its an older boat I dont want to keep replacing things but I do want to solve the issue....

ya i had the same problem wondering if the cd was bad. i didnt want to go spending the money on un needed parts as well luckly it worked on mine.

ya that blue pack is different from mine with color codes. i had several white wires with stripes and brown stator wires. hopefully someone will pop in thats got a bit more experience. good luck.

If the blue ebay one I posted has your model/hp, then go for it. Its an aftermarket, so maybe the blue was a coincidence?

Cheers

if your force has the black coils you can not use the blue they do not match up to the trigger asembly

If he has the 1988 'c' model it should work, look at your motor, look at the part description.

CDI electronics .com and outboardignition .com has test procedures for the motor.
You can throw parts at it all day and not find out what's wrong.
Blue and black can be used at the same time.

Re: force 125 Burnt up Cdi module?

The model is a 1x8b. I know jerry, been throwing parts at it for 3 months .Im going to start swapping cd wires around to see if it follows
the pack or coils. It cant be a bad cylinder 140 psi on all 4 and leak down was done. That black pack im hoping was a good asumption being charred up like that .I figured the blue and black packs are exactly the same, wire colors and all ,even the molds stamping and potting are the same.I figured it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck ,its a duck. When I get this figured out im hoping it runs as good as by 2000 6 hp mariner twin cyl kicker motor.I was amazed that a 6 hp with ez steer pushed this 19 capri cuddy all over the lake and it was choppy.Kicker motors are a great thing .I had to beef up and glass and some plywood at the stern on the inside for the panther bracket and it worked out great..This is a great site I would know nothing about this motor if I didnt find Iboats. Ive been reading old posts for months learning little by little. The best force forum around.. Thanks  ill keep you informed when the pack comes....
