Force 125 for parts...good purchase?

I need some feedback.
I've recently got a 1990 Force 90....no problems so far and I've got an opportunity to buy a 'parts' motor...a 1988 Force 125 which has a good lower leg but the top is 'cooked'.
Are there very many interchangeable or useful parts on the 125 that would fit my force 90? (ie coils? carbs? starter? or ?)
The reason I would consider having this spare motor around is purely to limit any costly repairs by having (perhaps) a good quick replacement part ...albeit used, to get me up and going.
Many Thanks!!

I believe that you will find that most parts interchange. :)

That was about the time they switched between the old Prestolite ignition and Merc's ADI ignition. Hopefully they're both Prestolite (blue components). The gearcases should swap, but I'm not sure about gear ratios. It would be nice if it was also a triple, but if the price is right...

Thanks....good feedback.
As far as price goes...I would probably be able to get the motor for about $150 bucks.
As for my 1990 motor...it must be the prestolite because it has the 'blue' coils.
Do you think the starter and some of the other 'upper' stuff would be the same?
....how about the prop?
I don't that much about this stuff yet....but I'm workin' on it.
Again...many thanks.

Very much would fit. Even pistons if you wanted to go in that far. The powerheads sit on the same leg. It's mostly that one has three cylinders and one has four. Beyond that they should be very compatible.

offer the guy $100..if you can get it for that its a good deal...for $150 your pushing the "worth it" zone ...i've picked up a few for $100 or less.....its good to have somebackup parts though...so i'd say its worth it just to have a backup lower unit...good used lower units go for $300 to $450 on ebay.
