Hello fella's

I have a 1986 125 hp Force. Can anyone give me any advice on how I can determine if I have a stator problem or a trigger problem.
I have no spark on #1 & #3. Pretty sure I ruled out the cdi boxes by putting on 2 other e-bay ones and have the same condition.

any help would be great!
Thanks,
Tom

Still been messin around with this ignition problem. Anyone know the symtoms of a bad trigger verses a bad stator?

Any help is greatly appreciated!!!

First off you need to buy a manual, the manual explains how to test your stator and trigger using an ohm meter, a manual is well worth the cost, you can probably find one on CD on ebay or hard cover if you prefer, good luck.

Re: force 125 ignition troubleshooting

Thanks,
I do have a Selco manual. I dont have a multimeter with dva voltage testing capabilities. I did try to swap around some things to eliminate or identify the problems. I do know #2 & #4 fire great, so I swapped #2 stator wire with #3 stator wire and picked spark back up in #3 and lost it in #2. This tells me that the stator pick-up for #3 is dead. The trigger, cdi box & coil must work because I picked up spark with good output from the stator. I tried this same test with #1 and still had no spark. I swapped trigger wires around for #1 & #2 and still no spark. Next step is I checked the coil by swapping #2 & #1 wires that come out of the cdi boxes and go to the coils. The coil worked fine. This makes me believe the cdi box is bad again for #1. Nothing I tried picked spark back up. I do have a spare cdi box but before I put it on, I want to try my back up stator.
Before I tried all these tests, I changed my cdi boxes and I tested the spark with a spark tester and all outputs had spark. I tested fast so I didnt crank too long. I started the engine and dropped 1 & 3 pretty fast.
My question to this mess is can a stator put out to much voltage (if it is shorted internaly,) to burn up a cdi box on one cylinders output pretty much as soon as you try to start it.

Thanks for any input Guys!
Sorry for the long story, just running out of ideas.
