First of all, thnaks to all of you who have helped me over the last year to feel confident about boating.
Here's my question: I can cruise my boat at about 20 mph all day long. I can even go above 30 mph, but if I stay above 30 for more than five or ten minutes, it really wants to die. I can feel it starving and surging. So I take it down to Iidle, and it still sounds like it's starving, so I finnesse the throttle to give it more gas and keep it from dying. After about five minutes, I can get going again, and cruise on home, frustrated. Simultaneous to the "starving", the fuel guage is erratic. So I know it's an electrical problem. How do I find the problem?

Thanks.

Re: Force 125 Starving.

I'm thinking it is not electrical in nature. If it was, it would be accompanied by an ignition miss that wouldn't go away.

Fuel gauge should be able to draw plenty of power from the battery to operate normally.

My guess is fuel starvation, caused by a weak old fuel pump diaphram. It simply isn't keeping up with the fuel demand.

Or the needle valve on the carb is partially clogged, not allowing the fuel to flow fast enough.

I would change out the diaphram and gaskets on the fuel pump. It probably need sto be done anyway.
