Force 125 "What's Going To Happen Next"??

Hello,
I have a 89 Force 125 (1251X9B), It seems everytime I take it out, it needs to worked on.
1st Trip- Ran good, then Starter went out. I replaced it.
2nd Trip- Ran good for a while then started missing real bad. Took it to a Boat Mechanic, he adjusted the Carbs and Timing and Linc & Snyc....
3rd Trip- Started and ran super,,,,,,,then started shooting gas out the bottom carb. Took it back to the shop, he replaced a tube in the carb (Had a Hole in it),,,
4th Trip- Started Great,,,,ran Great,,,,,for awhile,,,,,,started missing AGAIN. Top 2 Spark plugs were fowled bad. Replaced and ran good for a while the started fowling again. Wew!!!!!!

When the engine is running, it does a fine job. It seems after it gets really warmed up, it starts missing again.......

It is a "CRAP" shoot when you are pulling into a dock. You brig the shifter to the nutral position and it will die! Then starts up after play with a while.

The Mercury Marine Mechanic has adjusted the motor to the proper specs,,,,,,,Checked Compression,,,,it's fine!

What kind I do or CAN IT BE DONE,,,,,,to get this Motor running and stay running great!!

Sounds to me like the mechanics that are doing the work on the motor are not covering all bases. These motors have been out of production for some time now so many of the shops are not familiar with all of the little quirks particular to these motors.

I would suspect that you may have a case of either bad needle valves or mis-adjusted floats in your carbs. Sounds like it may be running rich. Cold engine needs a richer mixture initially to run well. After warm up, you may end up with fouled plugs. You may be able to solve the problem by rebuilding the carbs and replacing the fuel pump diaphragm.

My personal experience with marine mechanics working on my motor have not been positive. That's why I bought a manual and have been doing all my own work. I find that I can do a better job and much cheaper than a shop. But that's just my personal experience. I suspect that there are others out there that may feel the same way.

Besides doing what pnwboat suggested you might also look into your fuel recirculation system,as they tend to clog up from time to time.keep us posted as to what you find with your problem

I bought a Clymer book on this motor and it talks recirulation. The problem is it is a little bit hard to understand. Do you have some suggestions on "how too" etc. I want to thank you guys so much for your help.

You can use some carb cleaner to clean out the lines and fittings or check valves on the re-circulation covers. To get to the re-circulation covers for the top two cylinders, you may have to unbolt the metal plate that the coils and CD modules are mounted to.

NOTE: Never spray carb cleaner into the carbs of a running engine. There is no lubrication in the carb cleaner. 2 stroke engines get their lubrication from the oil that is mixed in with the fuel.

If the top two plugs are fouling out, I would also suspect that the upper carb has a bad needle valve, or float that is set too high. Could also be a piece of debris that is stuck on the needle valve preventing it from closing properly. As a precaution, you can install one of those low cost in-line clear fuel filters between the fuel pump and carbs.

You must know that I can help anyone with Fiberglassing and rebuilding boats,,,but when it comes to engine and mechanics,,,,,,,,,,I need all the help I can get due to not being Mechanical Incline......... So please bare with my "Hard Headness"..... I can follow directions very well if someone can ponit me in the right direction. I have both Cylmer and Seloc Manuals for this engine. The pics in the books are kinda hard to understand. Again,,,,,,thanks for your input. It means more to me than you will ever know.

I was a little confused on why the 2 top cly. plugs were fouling when the bottom carb was giving the fit......

You've got a 20 year old motor there. You're gonna have a few problems. Once you get them ironed out you should get another 20 out of it. There is also a fuel filter built into the right side (left if facing motor from inside the boat) that you might want to remove the cover for and clean out. It is a black, circular, about 2 inches in diameter cover that you unscrew. The filter is a metal screen and is easy to clean out. Blow it out and put it back in. That should help any fuel starvation problems. Good Luck.
