Hi, I scored my first boat Friday, Bayliner Capri 19' w/ Force 125. What a deal, $1000, the guy wanted it gone. Before I dump it in the water I want to go through some basic PM<br />stuff. I dropped the lower unit to check the h2o impeller and change the oil in the lower.<br />What type of oil should I put in there? Where is the thermostat located on the engine? Also, I can turn the prop 1.5" before the long shaft starts to turn. What is the normal free play here? The PO dumped in 2 qts. oil to 6 gals of gas. I have read in the posts that these things are a pain to start cold. My ? is why is this? What adjustments should I look at once I remove the gas mixture that looks like cough syrup.<br /><br />See you in Buzzards Bay next weekend, I hope <br />Chuck

LOWER UNIT TAKES 80-90W GEAR OIL GL-5 IN LOCAL AUTO SUPPLY OR MARINE OIL SAME THING JUST PAY A LITTLE MORE AT THE BOAT DEALER,THERMOSTAT IN LOCATED RIGHT ABOVE NO1 CYLINDER SQUARE BOX ON WATER HOUSING PLATE.END PLAY ON SHAFT ABOUT 1 INCH,ON CENTER SOUNDS RIGHT;WHAT YEAR ENGINE ARE WE TALKING ABOUT?WHAT COLOR WAS THE OIL IN LOWER UNIT ?

Haven't drained the oil in the lower unit yet. The engine is an 89. The tach doesn't seem to be working right. It registers rpms but starts jumpimg around irradically at times. any ideas on that. US marine instruments. I'm no marine expert but they dont look like the greatest quality stuff, at least what I have. Thanks on the info. Also do you know of a good force dealer online. Want to replace h2o pump gaskets, impeller and shaft seal while I'm into it. <br /><br />Thanks <br />Chuck

TRY www.seilermarine .com MIKE PRICES ARE THE BEST AROUND;THE ONLY OTHER PROBLEM WITH ALL FORCE @ MERC. ENGINES ARE THE STATORS THEY EAT THEM LIKE CANDY.WELL GOOD LUCK ON THAT NEW BOAT
