Force 125HP with water in crankcase

I have discovered water in the crankcase, determined by cranking engine with plugs out and water being ejected from 4th cylinder. It is a 1989 Force 125 HP (2 stroke) mated to an L-Drive.
My question is what are the possible causes for this and how to diagnose the problem. One more bit of information could be noticing a water leak from the exhaust manifold prior to this discovery.
I have already performed other various tasks on this unit and am comfortable with tackling this on my own at least to a point.

the gaskets on the exhaust manifold are only about 1/8 inch wide. It is easy for them to be pinched upon installation or breag when they get old. My guess is that the inside gasket has a break in it and is squirting water into the cylinder. The weakest part of this gasket is down low near the front (starter side). That is why it only puts water into #4 cylinder. Until you replace the gasket, be sure to run the engine a little, say every other day. If it sits too long, the cylinder will rust and jam up. Then you will need to hone it out.
I had that happen to a 125 outboard. I honed it without removing the pistonbecause the rust was only above the ports, cleaned it well, and it ran fine afterward.

Thanks, I'll try pulling the exhaust manifold and check on the gasket ...

try compression test first my 150 was doing same thing and i had no compression and a blown head gasket
