Force 15 - 1988 New Impeller and still No water coming out.

1988 Force 15. Sitting in storage for over 10 years. Used in salt water from the previous owner. Started right up but no water coming out from the exaust. Replaced impeller (old impeller looks intact) and there is still no water coming out. Not sure what to check for next. Any hints will be appreciated!

Check the lower unit water intakes behind the propeller to be certain there not plugged with dirt dobber nest. Also check the thermostat at the head to be certain it is opening correctly and allowing water flow.

I used a power washer feeding it througth the exhaust and now seeing water coming out. Not sure which area got cleared. I also submerged the lower unit in a bucket of water as oppose to using the ear muff.

Second question is how much water should be becoming out. Currently, a constant spurt of water and not a steady stream. Is this normal?

I'm pretty sure the holes you are looking at are exhaust relief holes and not a tell tale. You will see a heavy mist coming out of the holes, but not a solid stream.

I have an 88 7.5 HP Gamefisher (basically the same engine with less HP) and am looking into adding a tell tale to the engine so I can monitor how it's pumping water. With the location of the exhaust relief holes it's difficult to see if it's pumping water while running on the water, adding a tell tale to the side of the engine will make it easy to see the water flow.

My 1986 125hp worked when I bought it when I used muffs on it. Not a bunch of water came out but I figured enough. I did quite a bit of cranking over while troubleshooting this engine and it stopped pumping. I changed impellers and it still didnt work. I looked closer at the impeller housing and it was pitted pretty bad. I was able to find a new one on line and put it on and now have pretty good pressure coming out when it is at idle in water, not as good with the muffs. Check your housing if you are not happy with your pressure.
