Force 150hp tough start after sitting up

I have a 1991 Force 150 hp that I am having a little trouble with. When the engine sits up for more then a couple days it just doesnt want to start. It runs good, just some problems starting.

I cant ever get a battery to last more than about 1 minute of cranking (off and on), and usually they go dead after about 15 seconds. It sounds like the battery is dead, but I have tried all different batteries (ones I know are good from my other boat) and the same thing happens.

Also the positive power wire gets really hot right next to the battery terminal. And if the power wire stays connected to the battery while sitting up for a couple days it really drains the battery. I have checked to make sure the power switch is off. Im thinking it has a short in the system somewhere, but have not found one yet.

Sorry for the long post, just trying to be detailed.

Thanks for the help,

Mitchell

Do a compression test.Low comp on 1 cylinder can make it hard to turn over.
Make sure the batteries are load tested.Probably not the problem.
Bad starter?How old?Overheated?
Starter could look like this?
The starter cleaned/rebuilt.Brushes?
Turning the brushes upside down can make them last longer.
Hot lead usually means that's a weak spot.
Cut it shorter removing the hot spot and put in a new connector.
Check all connections.J

I should add a couple things...
It is a 1991 engine.
I had a comp. test done a little while ago and all checked out.
It has a new starter and a new stator on it.

Im going to try cutting off some of the wire and see if that helps..

Any more ideas?

Thanks,

Mitchell

Make sure the terminal ends of your battery cables - at the battery, to the starter solenoid and to ground are corrosion free.

Really hot means massive current flow.

Battery going dead while just sitting means short.

Check all cables and wires for abrasions.

There are only a few hot wires on the engine.
One of them is grounding out somewhere.
Possibly a wiring mistake at the solenoid.

Disconnect them, and check them individually to find the short.

You can loose compression in 1 trip.
A compression and spark test is always the first steps in diagnosing any problem.

Thanks for all the help everyone. I cut off about 6 inches of wire from the positive and negative cables and that seems to have done it. Im going to let it sit for a couple days and hopefully it wont give me any problems. If so, Ill be back haha.
