I originally posted this on the mercury page (as the motor is force 40 by mercury) - I was told to post it here - here is my original post . . .
my force 40 is running well, however, I can not get the engine to move to full power / throttle.
We've had the outboard for 6 years & it was running well until last week. We had it running at high throttle & it slowed to about 10 mph by itself - with the throttle in the same position. Since then, that is the top speed of the motor. I can't even get the engine to rev high while using the throttle control.
I am able to rev the engine by moving the control myself with the cover off. I've tried new plugs, new gas, checking the gas line.
Again - the engine sounds good actually - it just has no power! Any sugestions?
I've had it out 3 times yesterday & on the fourth - the motor wouldn't start at all. It is trying to turn over, but it doesn't. I'm guessing it is not sparking.
Again, new plugs, new gas, gas line is OK - - Help!
