Re: Force 50 NO Acceleration Under Load

Well, Only...
That's a new one on me. Usually anytime you pull the plug wire on a cylinder that is making power, rpm drops or the engine dies. If you pull the plug wire on a cylinder that is making no power there is no change.

Now you tell me that all cylinders are showing signs of making no power, but the engine continues to run.

Did you do this under load?

i would make sure the firing order is right.....
Also check to make sure that coil is giving eneogh spark, with not enough, the fuel could be wetting it then with lack of spark it could have problems igniting, also wires. Sort of like a butane lighter, turn the gas nob to much it won't light.....

hope this helps...oh could be the ignition control unit (controls coil spark)

i am new to boat motors but that is what i would check on any other motor.....

Re: Force 50 NO Acceleration Under Load

There is something seriously wrong with out engine. We threw a pair of ear muffs on it and started her up in the driveway, RPM's shot up to about 8000/8500. Sounded like it was gonna fly off. Turned the key and wouldnt cut off, hit emergency shut off, still didnt cut off, meanwhile rpm's are still racing higher and higher. had to choke it for it to shut off. Needless to say, we blew out the coils and the cdi. Ordered them yesterday and will see if that fixes our original problem on friday.

Howdy, Only.

Your engine went into thermal runaway. It became a diesel. That is not unusual if the engine is revved in neutral.

You got lucky; it is not unusual for the engine to stop itself by putting a rod through the side of the crankcase.

Perhaps the new powerpack and coils will solve your original problem.

Good luck. :)

JB,

I had to close the choke on it. The cd unit blew, thats why the kill circuit didn't work. Tempearture warning came on and buzzed for like 30 min until it finally cooled off. We got the cdi and the 2 coils today. WIll put them in and tell you guys how it went.
THnks

For everybody who helped us out with this problem, the solution is below :) :

We replaced both the CDI and the two coils and the engine is running pretty much normal UNDER LOAD. A few minor adjustments including the timing and we are rolling. Apparantley it was an issue of spark not getting to the cyl. when load was applied.

Thanks for your help! :D
