Force 50 Prop not spinning when higher RPMS?

Hello,

At the end of the last season I was having some problems with the Force 50 outboard on our Spectrum. It seemed that everything would work fine when at lower RPM's and I could put along just fine. However, at higher RPMS or as I gave it throttle, it would seem to "disengage" the propeller so I wasn't moving anymore but the motor RPMS were still high.

I had put the boat in my barn when it was acting up but it's finally getting a little warmer here in WNY so I am looking at things now. I noticed that the linkage for the shifter was backed out and I am wondering if that could have been the whole cause? I tightened it back up against the jam nut and it seems to be adjusted right.

The propeller doesn't seem to have worn splines on it but I thought that could maybe have been the issue also? I am hoping I didn't wear down the other end of the propeller shaft or something with the linkage having backed out like that... Can I just pull the two allen head screw out and pull that shaft out to look at it?

Check out the attached pics. I am open to any suggestions. This seems like it would be hard to test because I can't open it up in a barrel or anything to replicate it. If you have suggestions for testing let me know.

Thanks for your insight!
Jim

Your prop has a rubber insert between the hub and blades, they do wear out, causing the slip you mention. Most prop shops can fix them, or just buy a new prop. The linkage should not have moved, the locknut comes loose at times but usually the rest don't move.

Called a spun hub.
You can scribe a line on the hub and the aluminum of the prop.
Do that and go for a ride.
After it spins, check the line and see if it's moved?

Like grub said a prop shop or any boat shop or repair shop can send it to a repair facility.
