Force 85hp, water in fuel HELP!!!

This weekend I got lots of salt water in my gas tank, didn't realize it until it sucked up enough to kill the motor. pumped the old fuel out of the tank, filled with new gas, but still nothing. What should I do. How can I flush the system? What kind of damage could I have done? Tonight I'm planning on removing the carb bowls to see if there's water there, what else can I drain, and what should I do if I'm able to get it running? Please help I really don't know what to do from here.<br /><br />Thank you in advance for any help<br />-Steven

Adding one pint of 70% rubbing alcohol per 10 gals of gas works in a car. Should work here too, I guess. The alcohol aborbs the water and allows it to go into solution with the gas.

Thanks for the reply...<br />I've seen alot about avoiding fuels with alcohol additives here. I'm not sure if they were talking 2-stroke, etc...? anybody on this one? I got some fogging oil and I'm gonna try to drain everything and crank it tonight.

Clean your carb bowl and blow through the jets if you can. Water in contact with fuel becomes a thick gluggy liquid. put some in a glass jar for a few days and see. Some posts here have cautioned against acohol in fuel and so do some outboard manuals, Ive had no bad experience with that but usually when your system is contaminated to the point of bad running its best to flush and clean. there is a water trap you can use to prevent this happening again. I think its called an agglomeration filter basically a glass bowl with fuel inlet and outlet at the top and a drain for clearing the water

Thanks for the reply. I got her running. Had to remove the carbs, lots of water in the bowls. I also sprayed fogging oil everywhere I could get it. She cranked right up in a bucket of water. I ran it for about 30 mins and the smoke from the fogging oil pretty much cleared up. Weather permitting I'm taking her out tonight. We'll she how she does under pressure. I'll have to look at getting one of those filters, problem would be where to mount it? Thanks again<br />-Steven
