hello, cruisin the forum, this topic got my attention, got a 88-9 bayliner cuddy, and force 125 eng, christmas, don't know if it runs but was told it does well.
I want to set it up right from the start so i plan to do plugs, impeller, oil lube, and thermastat. helm doesnt have a tach, or temp guage, not sure if it has a sensor. I suppose i was nieve to expect some standardization on engines and boats. will find out, all suggestions appriciated. i just got selocs force manual. 1984-99
walter

I have found the Clymers manual to be a little less generic, more specific. Better yet, look around for a factory manual.

Replace the fuel pump diaphram while you are at it. $10

Water pressure guage is more helpful than temp guage, and much easier to install, kits run about $50.

Tach is important for monitoring engine and prop selection/performance. TinyTach is a good and easy to install setup. You wrap the wires around the sparkplug leads and it picks up the signal.
Call them and they will set you up with the right one for your motor.
http://www.tinytach.com/tinytach.html

Make sure non of the carbs are running lean.

Decarb your engine:
http://www.iboats.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=36;t=000016

Do a compression check and write down the results for diagnostic future use.

Come back here and tell us how its going. :)

I'm not an expert, but I believe you have a tempurature alarm, probably located under the dash. Check it thoroughly, mine was disconnected when I bought the boat.
