I have a force 9.9 that is not pumping water.
Last year in cold weather it stopped in the middle of the lake. I stopped it and did not start it until this fall. Started fine, seems to have all power, but is getting really hot. Where is the water pump on this? Is it in the lower unit. All pipes to the engine are clear of any blockage. Is there a thermostat? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Suppose to go duck hunting this weekend.

Hello kkelly,

I do not know but you should pick up a manual for it. That will give you all of the info you are looking for. ;)

Metal piece? Thermostat cover? Please clarify.
The pump is in the lower unit, and it must be completely removed to get at it.
I also urge you to get the shop manual. It will save yer bacon, and some things just can't be visualised over the web.
However, if I CAN help you over the net, let me know. I have the manual here, and will try.

Re: Force 9.9 Not pumping water

Thanks 12Footer for your post. I fixed it last night. The impeller was cracked in half. When I first took it off I did not see the impeller under the cap. I am posting how I fixed it for anyone else who wants to do this. First take the four screws out of the lower unit. Begin sliding the lower unit off until you expose the screw small screw that fastens the two engaging rods together. Once the screw has been removed, slide the lower unit off. You will see a cover with four screws in it that the impeller resides in. Remove this cover and then remove the impeller. Make sure to locate the pin that turns the impeller. This pin had fallen off and and was lying in the lower unit. It is shaped like a small L. Slide the old impeller off of the rod and replace the impeller with the new impeller. Make sure the pin slides into the hole on the impeller so it can turn it. At this time put all back together and the change has been made.
