Force 90 HP will not turn off...

Bought a 1994 26' Riviera Cruiser pontoon boat. First time at the river, she cranks and runs good. All was well until trying to turn it off the last time just as she was put on the trailer. Will not turn off! Motor just wants to keep going... lol Oh well, unplugged the gas line and let her run out of gas. I know, probably not good.

Gotta chase down the problem. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Also, would this be a 30:1 or a 50:1 oil to fuel ratio mixture. The motor is also a 1994. I was told 30:1, but it sure does smoke a lot and does not idle well.

50 to 1 on the gas. When you say it wont shut off do you mean it sputters but dont die or turning the key off at any RPM will have no effect on the motors performance? IF motor sputters and keeps running you are probably experiencing dieseling which is probably too much carbon in the cylinders which are creating their own ignition source. If there is no effect at all when turning off the switch then the ignition switch may not be shorting the coils to ground.

FYI if you choke the motor it will die. It is better then running the gas out.

sounds like ur key switch is the problem is u turn it off and motor still runs

Good idea about the choke.

I guess 30:1 would make her run badly and smoke a lot? Would not idle at all this past trip. That is actually how we got her to turn off the last trip. First trip, she was running good and had to remove the fuel line to stop her.

Key starts with no problem, just will not turn off the engine. It is either the ignition switch or a wire to the engine, I guess. I looked in the wiring harness for a broken wire at the ignition, at the front of the motor and under the motor cover. Did not see one that was broken. Oh, the key worked great all day just until we were taking her from the river three weeks ago. I have been out of town and not able to go since, except this last weekend. The ignition still did not turn her off. Which wire should I try to trace out from the switch? Which post would I check on the switch? So, to kill the engine, it grounds out the coils?

There are 6 terminals on the back of the switch.
2 of them are labeled with the letter "m".

With the key in the off position, these 2 terminals are connected and provide a path to ground out the ignition.

The wires may be different colors, but usually they are white or blue.

They may be black/yellow striped and blue/black striped.
To test them, you can remove the wires from the 2 "m" teminals and twist them together, then try to start the engine.
It should not start.

Then, too test the switch, turn it off, and check for continuity between the 2 "m" terminals.

On the engine end, one wire connects to ground.
The other wire connects to the black/yellow stripe wire coming out of the switchbox.

i bet it is a fuse that went. A buddy of myn bought a bought and the first time out on the lake we tried to shut it off and wouldnt so they had a technician come down and he said a fuse had blown so your best bet is to look at the fuses to see if anything blew.
