Hi I have a 90 force L Drive apart and would like to know if anybody else has one apart also.I am looking for the numbers on the upper and lower bearings on the drive shaft.I don't need the force part number I need the number that is stamped on the bearings it self.If I can get a number I can have it crossed over and get it alot cheaper then the dealer wants for it.I got the lowor seal for the driveshaft for 8.00 yes 8.00 the dealer here wanted over 200.00 for it.I had a buddy cross over the numbers for me and it is the same seal as the stock one.I compaired them and they are the exact same thing. He told me if I could get the number off the bearings he could do rhe same thing.Mine came out in a hundred pieces.I would like the number off the top bearing and the lower bearing and the top seals too.THANKS TO ALL.

Re: Force 90 L Drive Bearings

If you can get the numbers off the inner race, the outer race is usually a standard matching part and the bearing supplier can look it up. I'm assuming the outer race shattered because that is the one that usually breaks when you try to remove it.

Yes most of the bearings and seals are standard parts and much cheaper when outsourced.

However, your 8 buck seal sounds too cheap. are you sure you got one with a stainless garter spring? that usually doubles the price of the seal. 17 bucks would sound more like it.

Re: Force 90 L Drive Bearings

I'm looking at a boat to "buy" that has a Force 90 L-Drive. This is one of those storys you hear about. It hasn't been in the water since 1996. The owner says he started it about four years ago, but shut it off when the high temp alarm came on. All of the hoses are rotten and the engine wasn't getting cooled. Do you have any advice, other than turn and walk away?

Even the Force fans recommend walking away from the L drive.
Under powered pain in the butt to work on.

Well alot of people will say turn and run but if you are hardheaded and stupid like me and you like the looks of the boat then do what you have to do.If you look hard enough like I did you can find parts all over the U.S. for the L drive.Buy the manual and a good torch because you will need them both.Everything you have to loosen up you have to heat or you snap off bolts.I have rebuilt the whole outdrive on my boat from top to bottom for less then you think. So if you can do the work yourself go ahead buy the boat and enjoy.
