I believe my 1990 Force 90 hp. calls for Champion UL18V plugs which are surface gap plugs. Can someone tell me what the traditional center electrode gap plug equivalent plug number is? How about NGK plugs? Is it true that surface gap plugs are not the best other than at wide open operation?
Thanks

Stick with the recommended Champions, they work the best in your Force... ;)

1woody1
I agree with Dmessy that you should stick with what's recommended by the manufactuer, but the surface gap plugs do tend to load up at lower speeds. More so at trolling speed though. Found that out on my old Mercury 650. Some do run other plugs when they are having trouble with fouling at low speeds, but I can't make any recommedation as to which one. Maybe owners of similar Force Motors will chime in.

Re: Force 90 spark plugs

Woody, if you want to use a gap style plug in this motor, it is possible....for guys that do alot of low speed running a NGK B9HS-10 gapped at .040" will last longer and give a better long term idle quality too.....if you are going skiing/tubing, back to a surface gap, BUHW....the gap plug was never a 'factory' fix, but a back door recommendation...have used it many times myself with good results.

Also have used the Champion L77JC4 many times in a fouling application.
