1994 40hp force has the drive shaft sitting too low in gear case, not allowing the key way pin to grab the impeller, cannot figure this out.a local shop owner says he has not heard of this.

Re: force drive shaft

I'm not sure, but if it has the same lower unit as earlier engines, the drive shaft is splined and simply slips into the lower unit and pinion. There should be a stainless plate under the impeller which will keep the shaft from dropping too far. However, I have never seen one that dropped too far in. Perhaps the splines are cut too long. Is it possible to get another shaft to compare it to?

Re: force drive shaft

the keyway pin was filed down by rubbing against that stainless plate as it was spinning around.the impeller was only catching a tiny bit of the keyway pin,and now will not catch any of the pin.i was putting in a new impeller when I found this, boat is a project and I did not check it for water coming out the pee tube the first time I cranked it checking to see if motor would fire.

Re: force drive shaft

the keyway pin is not supposed to rest on that stainless plate as it spins is it?

Re: force drive shaft

Most of the ones I have seen are very close to the stainless plate, but they should not actually rub against it.

Re: force drive shaft

looking at it the keyway pin is about halfway through the hole in the plate,it's like the shaft is sitting about 3/16 to low for every thing to line up and work.
