Before removing my lower unit I went to check for water in fluid before replacing a impellor on a bad unit. I removed the shift pin not thinking. I did slide it back when I saw what it was.. Now I did change the impellor but after reading some posts....I wondered if it really is in place. The gear case did shift into forward and reverse before installing the unit back on...So tell me do I pull it off lay it on it's side and take out the pin to see if I goofed or does the fact it shifted while the unit was free mean it was back in place...mind you the lower unit was attached and the shift rod connected...all i did was slide it out and put it back in????

nevermind I pulled the lower unit put it on it's side. carefully loosened the pin til it was free...moved the shift lever back and forth slightly and I could free it operating is it should be...fixed...but the shifting kicked the heck outta me sincce the former owner didn't have the towershaft arm and interlock lever level or in alignment....test run on muffs tomorrow and then lake if it seems a go

If all you did was take it out and put it right back in with out moving anything you should be OK.
