Force Ignition troubles

I've researched the archives and have not found the answer I'm looking for...I'm working on a 1989 50hp force with a prestolite system and when the engine has set cold, it will crank and start for about 8-10 seconds, then die. I've found by spark tester that it is loosing fire. It will not fire for about 20-30 minutes of letting it set, then the same thing. I've tested the stator per CDI's recommendations which are 680-850 ohms (OEM stator) and get 620+/-10 on 1 set and 270+/-10 on the other..the first being the brown/black/yellow and the second being the brown/yellow, numbered 1 and 3 and 2 and 4 at the terminal strip.
I do not have a manual particular to this engine as it's one of those "last minute" can you help me out deals. I know the manuals are important, I use them every day, I just don't have any for Force. any help or insight would be great. Thanks guys.

Replaced stator and fixed problem..if anyone wants that info.

But I guess I would have told you what you already knew was the problem.

Still, its a shame that after helping so many people here, that no one answered your post.

Thanks, buddy....sometimes a guy has to just figure it out...I was 99% sure, but thought I'd ask for some that may have a bit more knowledge on the Force. Anyway, he's fixed and on the lake a happy man...guess that's what counts.

hi guys u seem to know alot about this force motor i'm new to this and on the first trip i had to be towed back due to an overheating problem on a 92 120 force l drive .the engine still have good compression but it wouldn't start ,i checked for spark and it does not have it continuously meaning for seconds u have sparks and the it is gone please help also buy the way i couldn't find where to post new threads from .
