Hello everyone. Who manufactured Force outboard motors? I originally thought it was Chrysler but then I seen Force by Mercury outboards also. Just a little confused... With that being said I understand that outboard and controls need to match, for example Johnson outboard requires Johnson controls etc.... Will a Force by Mercury outboard work with a boat set up with Mercury controls? Thank you very much.

Re: Force outboard manufacture and application

West Bend was bought by Chrysler. Chrysler was forced by the US govt to divest and sold to AMF Brunswick. They changed the name to Force and manufactured under the US Marine label. I'm not sure, but either Mercury bought out US Marine or AMF bought Mercury. At any rate after 1994 Force engines were manufactured by Mercury until the line was discontinued in 1999. Thus: Force engines (the basic block, crank, and pistons, are a derivative of a 50 year old design.

Great, thanks!! Just for clarification, with Force Mercury engines manufactured between 1995-1999 be able to work with boats set up with Mercury controls? Sorry for the ignorance, I just didn't know. Thanks again.

Re: Force outboard manufacture and application

After 1994 Mercury got serious about making changes. Force engines from 1995 to 1999 use the Mercury Quicksilver 3000 controls and Mercury cables. Earlier control boxes by US Marine and Chrysler will not work with these engines.
