I hope this thread helps them to learn
how test our electrical system before buying a expensive part

I hope the experts in force outboard to give us advice
I give my contribution to test the ignition coil..

**primary test**

multimeter in function of ohm..(Ω)
black lead to ground (black wire)
red lead to primary wire
this has to give 0.2 to 1.0 Ω

**secondary test**
multimeter in function of ohm..(kΩ)
black lead to primary wire
red lead to spark plug wire inside the boot
this has to give 800 to 1100 ohm..(kΩ)
in some 85hp model is only 160 to 200 ohm..(kΩ) some black coil






someone knows how to test
1) stator
2) trigger
3)cdi ignition pack
4)rectifier

Try here, outboard ignition . com (remove spaces)
CDI ignition. Both have test procedures for outboards.

The primary test with a multimeter can give you wrong info because of low resistant in the primarywinding.
You will get about same readings if the primarywinding is shorted but the coil will not work.

you must have a good multimeter to make no mistake
0.2 up 1.0 ohm
According to the manufacturer
remember that these coils have about 23 years
the first thing I recommend is to change the boots because they are full of rusty
