Re: Force outboard trim/tilt
Well, roscoe/clanton, my last post I promised to let you know what I found out, well I plead ignorance, or a bad case of the dumb-azz, or maybe I can blame it on old age. In any event, I am ashamed to tell the story, but I did promise. My trim tilt, having not worked on the up cycle for the last year on the up side (it started out working sometimes, and sometimes not, and finally just quit permanently on the up side, only working on the down). So I have been going under the engine cover, and reversing the blue & green wires when I needed to get it up.
About a month or so ago, I purchased a new relay, went under the cover, and too pick the bad relay, I unplugged one of the wires, and tried both the up and down rocker, and neither worked, so I naturally surmized I had the down (that had been working) unplugged, and changed out the other relay (which must be the up)
Well. no change, same old sh!t, so I surmized it must be in the rocker switch, and after much examination, there is just no way to get into that switch. Evidently rosco, from the diagrams in my manual, I have the commander 2000 w/trim/tilt. So I left the new replacement relay in, and hid the one I took out, which evidently was still good.
After our last exchange of postings, on 8/29, I decided to check out further, and on the control, I cannot figure how to get into the switch, but there is a side panal comes off, exposing the red, green, and blue wires. Well, I took my sharp probe test light, and using a long jumper, grounded it on the engine, and with the sharp probe, cheked and found the greenn, and blue wires were hot when they should be, so evidently it must be a broken wire. Well, after numerous checks, I decided there were no broken wires, and it had to be a relay.
So then, I know I have the old relay that I had taken out, which must be the good one, but as you all will find out, that when you get to be close to 70 yrs old, you do not put something up, you keep it in your pocket, because if you put it up, you will never be able to find it again (you need big pockets). So I drove 90 miles, purchased another relay, got back home on the lake, installed in place of the remaining original, and it now works, Taaa Daahh.
What I cannot figure, is how the danmd thing is wired, as it does not make sense. If one of the relays is bad, the other one will work ok, but if you unplug one, neither one will work, crazy, it looks to me like an electrical engineer went to a helluva lot of trouble, just to design something for the simple purpose, to befuddle my already 70 yr old befuuled mind.
Anyway, it is now working, and thanks guys for your help.
