I have been in the market for a 9.9 Mecury for a year. I plan to use it as a kicker on my 16 foot bowrider. I saw advertised a 1995 9.9 Force, the selling price is $700.00. It apears to be in good condition. Is this a fair price or are they asking too much?

I don't think it's a good deal at all. I personally wouldn't own that motor if it were half that price. I looked at the lower unit on crowleymarine.com and lots of the lower unit parts were NLA, as I suspect other parts are as well. Those motors aren't known to be very good engines and if I were you, I'd hold out for a true mercury motor. The lower unit on the force looks weak to me.
Why are you so set on the merc? Do you want it to match your bigger merc on the same boat as a kicker?
Just curious,

Don't even consider it as a choice, especially at that price. Buy the Merc you want, or some other name brand motor that's still in production.

Thank you for the response. I will wait for the Mercury to come around. I presently have a 90 Merc on the back and I am very pleased with its performance.

The Force for $ 700. is too expensive .. unless it is still in showroom condition . yes some LU parts and a few other misc ones are NLA .. but IMO (I own one) it's a descent OB to own if the price is right and you can give it TLC ... meaning much cheaper than buying an equivalent Merc or OMC. They are ex Chryler OB's. I like mine ... I tend to favor underdoogs also ... LOL
