Hello! After a miserable start to the boating season, I think I've got my 86 125 hp force running juuuuust right now. You all helped me with decarboning, and replacing a pesky thermostat that was giving me an alarm. I want to be able to have more data available about my boat before the alarm goes off, and be able to pinpoint whats wrong NEXT time. Bayliner was nice enough to give me readings for speed and fuel, definately important, but I felt as though I was lacking some essentials. I went out and bought a new tach (yes, it is compatible with the 20 pole) and a used volt gauge and temp gauge. No problems with the tach. The volt gauge I bought just happens to be junk, but thats not a topic for this forum. The real issue I'm having is with the temperature gauge. I hooked it up as I thought I should (its a faria, I also looked it up on their webpage), and kept getting nothing on the gauge. After a while I think I've figured out that the sending unit currently on the engine (for the alarm) is ON/OFF, not the variable I'd need for a gauge. Makes sense, but only after 4 hours of screwing around. So, my question is two part, where can I get a gauge(i've decided to buy a new gauge too) and sending unit for this particular motor. Part two is, can I get one that is dual purpose (or is this available on the gauge). By that I mean, if the temp goes up, there will be an on/off switch (to hook up to the alarm, or an alarm on the gauge) as I enter the danger zone so if I do miss the jump on the gauge I have a backup warning system, or can I leave the current sensor unit (for the alarm) and include another for the gauge, and how would I do this. Not sure if I'm asking too much here, any assistance you can provide would be great!
